Emily has always felt like there was more to her parents' mysterious death, more to her being sent to live with the Lyall’s when she was fifteen. And definitely more to her inexplicable infatuation with Luke, the Lyall’s youngest son.

Luke can’t help but be drawn to Emily. She has these perfect blue eyes, unlike any he’s ever seen. And he feels a fierce need to protect her. Suddenly, one night, changes everything. He feels conflicted about his feelings and his destiny, as he and Emily are suddenly plunged into a strange new world.

Fast paced and action packed, a romance between Emily and Luke begins to take shape just as they are thrust into an ancient war, caught in the crossfire of bloodlust, revenge and love.

I've never read a book with vampires or werewolves, which you can gather by reading my review policy. But this book was something I didn't expect at all. Here's why:

  • I've read lots of books with forbidden loves, and lots of them are with one of the love interests being shy or stupid. In this case, I finally understood it. Luke must decide if he loves Emily for her, or just because its in his blood to be drawn to her and to want to protect her. For that reason, lots of conflicts arise throughout the book where Luke is trying to decide if he is taking advantage of their involuntary attraction towards each other. There was a unique love quarrel.
  • The characters became their own worst enemy when they had to decide if their love for their mate was real or not.
  • There was a "war" in a sense going on in the background, so not only was there romance but an action packed story.
  • Luke and Emily had to deal with vampires craving them (for blood or because of attraction) which created a love triangle (or octagon).

The Corollaria didn't have a detailed enough description for me to predict what I read, but I'm glad that I chose to read this book. The love was unique and fresh and the plot was enough to keep me entertained with the other characters. Though some elements were confusing, I still enjoyed it.

I don't know if I'll be reading vampire books in the future, but I know the typical stereotype, and this was not it. Like I said, this was fresh and new, and I think its about time you all pick yourselves up a copy.

He was hungry. Starving. Famished. The pulsating hum of vitality, the sweat of the human’s skin, the lust that rolled like a fog through the crowded field grabbed at him. His fangs slipped out, puncturing his lower lip. Two tiny dots of blood wetted the parched flesh. The scent of blood hung heavy in the air. A toxic, suffocating, deliriously inebriating mix. A ravenous feral hunger twisted his stomach.

It was dark now, except for the haunting glow of the moon overhead in the black sky, and the stage that loomed in the distance, vibrating with heavy guitar riffs and slurred singing. Decked with multi colored flashing lights and filled with smoke, it was like a beacon calling out to the masses. The grassy field was all mud now, but Samuel strode through it easily enough, blending into the crowd with his usual arrogance. His stride was lithe, predatory, as was his gaze. He scanned the raucous crowd with steely eyes, a ruthless hunter in the night.
