SupaGurl Book Tours is currently running a tour for the Control Series. In collaboration with this, I decided to review book one of the series rather than book two. If you read my Signs of Being A Serial Reader post, which you can read by clicking here, you know I CANNOT stand reading second books in series. I just cannot do it.
So that's why I decided to review book one of the Battlefield Series.
Let me start by saying that I just love the dialogue in this book. Especially with the character, Orlando. He is so witty and sarcastic that it made me just want to open the book up to see what he had to say next. I found that the characters were very well written. Especially Orlando and Alan. They had the most background story to them and towards the end of the book, the story starts to become their's, if that makes sense. You see more chapters in their point of view than any other character, which is great, considering they're so likable.
The plot is something very unique. You can tell the author took a lot of time and thought into developing the series. The alien gadgets, the alien powers, the aliens, are just so cool. The great part about it is it's not hard to understand at all. You don't have to remember all these names and stuff. The author also was good at creating an image for the reader. It's like seeing the special FX in your head.
I've seen reviews that say the plot was "slow". Obviously some things took a little longer to develop, but at least it was entertaining at the same time. It wasn't like you were reading miscellaneous, unimportant stuff. There just wasn't non-stop action all the time.
There are some loose ends in the story that I'd like to see developed in book two and three. If you'd like a review for book two, comment below! Ultimately I enjoyed the book and choose the keep it on my bookshelves. I hope we see more from the other characters, and there is more action in the next book.
Just in case I wasn't clear, I give it an eight out of ten.
