My NaNoWriMo Experience: Week 1!

So I know this post is slightly late, but as week two of NaNoWriMo kicks off, I thought I'd give you a little insight on how its been so far for me.

You know when you start writing a book and all of a sudden want to stop because a) you don't like the idea b) you have a better idea, or c) you're a lazy bum?

Midway through week one I was experiencing that. By the way, my answer was d) all of the above.

I decided that I needed encouragement, and fast. No, I did not participate in the forums (because thats writing and why would I be writing about needing help with my book instead of actually writing my book? Facts) I decided to crawl through my NaNoWriMo inbox and read all those pep talks from authors I'd been ignoring. And you know what? They helped.

Another thing that helps was Tumblr. I searched NaNoWriMo and found what other writers were saying. You know some people have already finished? Someone wrote 50,000 words in 10 days!

This encouragement has got me on a 2,000+ word a day kick. I'm scheduled to finish by the 25th, and if you check my NaNoWriMo word count on the right, you can see I am more than halfway done!

Now who said I couldn't do it?

Today's Word Count: 2,104

Quote from today's writing:

“Come on,” he says, smiling. “Live a little.”

“I think I lived enough for today, thank you. I might’ve even died a few times.”

Colin puts a hand over his chest. “Rain. I solemnly swear that these will be the best burgers that you will ever have.”

He looks into my eyes, his expression softening when my eyes meet his. I shove him playfully.

“Well, come on. Let’s get moving.”

My NaNoWriMo Experience: Day 1!

Okay, so today was Day 1 of NaNoWriMo. I hope you all participated.

I was really about to not write today. I had a large dinner and some yummy dessert. I wasn't trying to sit at a computer for an hour.

But I did. So...

My motivation? I really want to be apart of this. I really want to start being a procrastinator, get my head out my ass, and make some progress with this book. I think I can take this novel somewhere. (Plus, NaNoWriMo has some awesome prizes this year.)

SO I put on my relaxing music (curtesy of the Sound Sleep app for Android. I just love how it has relaxing sounds and piano music intertwined in it. Plus, you can set a timer.) Then I started writing. I couldn't go straight through, because I had to keep getting up and checking the cookies I was forced to bake. But I didn't go on the internet. Only picked up my phone once. Took a two minute bathroom break. And I wrote 1,584words.

I have a good feeling about this book and this challenge. I really think I can make it.

How to participate in National Novel Writing Month!

For those of you who read, you should know that November is National Novel Writing Month! There are so many fun ways to make the most of November, and I'm going to give you some cool ways to participate, in addition to the website NaNoWriMo.com.

If you want to participate in writing:
  1. The easiest way is NaNoWriMo.com, where users are challenged to write 50,000 words in one month. (Users under 18 can set their own word count, if they want.) Before you say "No way!", keep in mind that this is a great time to teach yourself self discipline, a quality you can use on the daily basis, especially if you're a procrastinator like me. Plus, even if you don't reach your goal, you can connect with other people to give you encouragement.
  2. Set your own goal. Maybe you want to write 30,000 words, or a novella.
  3. This is kind of cheating a little bit, but dig out an old story, and make it your business to finish. Or you can try to journal write every day of November, or maybe write a full length poetry book. You can even try to draw a full poetry book.
How to write 50,000 words in November:

I found a cool schedule for NaNoWriMo that helps you divide the day in easy segments for writing. One thing that I've done is plan out/outline my book idea. This way I do not get bored or run out of ideas, and know exactly where the story is going. Keep in mind that you can skip to the parts you are anticipating, and fill in the rest later. I highly suggest you open up a Twitter or social networking account so that you can chat with others about NaNoWriMo. Tweet me (@bloggerESP) and we can talk! Plus, make sure you stay tuned on this blog for weekly updates.

Other Ways to Participate:
To me, just reading a novel in November is enough. So you can...
  1. Become a beta reader for us participating in NaNoWriMo. You can give people opinions on their books, trust me, it's a big help! Use Goodreads forums to connect with us authors.
  2. Try to read as many books as possible in November.
  3. Get as many authors as possible to talk with you on Twitter. Idk. I'm out of ideas.

So if you want to participate in NaNoWriMo with me, go on the website now and check it out! Update your profile!
